The University College Dublin, Ireland, was founded in 1854. With more than 20,000 students it is now the largest university in Ireland. The UCD School of Agriculture, Food Science and Veterinary Medicine considers itself to be a partner to the food and nutrition industry contributing to the success of the Irish food trade with activities in the educational, training and service fields. For many years, the UCD is concerned with the application of pulsed electrical fields and other novel technologies for the food industry.
In May 2009, the UCD has significantly expanded its technical capabilities with the installation of an ELCRACK® system. “We have now a pilot plant at our disposal which can be used for research projects and industrial cooperations”, emphasized Dr. James Lyng, Senior Lecturer at the UCD School.
